The Izyushkin Project-- The translation project in To Young Parents parallels the translation in the Izyushkin video of 2007, where friends and employees (Isaac’s nanny) were asked to decipher his babble. The act of exoticfication and aetheticisation of both Russia and Isaac became engangled in the mother’s mind, intensifying and visualizing the phenomena of separation---as the child separates from the mother, not only does he display characteristics of an independent identity, as if your foot was to look at you and start to speak, he speaks a different language and is a born native to a culture that I observe ironically. This work is the mother's attempt to reconcile herself to this phenomenon, and observe areas in which it spreads outside of the act of motherhood into ordinary expatriate life and indeed travel in general.
